Pirates 5 Had a Bad…and Great Weekend, ‘Silver and Black’ to Have Major Spider-Man Characters, Whedon – Justice League News and More! – ComicCorp News

It’s Memorial Day, and it’s hot as hell over here. I looked at Monday’s news, but didn’t find anything. Then I realized I didn’t cover comics at all this weekend, so here we are.

Pirates of the Caribbean Opening Weekend Results – Johnny Depp’s fifth “Pirates of the Caribbean” film, “Dead Men Tell No Tales”, opened up with a $285.4 million. While they only had $77 million in the United States, they had a nice overseas haul of $208.4 million. This is the lowest opening weekend total domestically since the original.

Wonder Woman Cinematographer Compares Film – Matthew Jensen revealed recently the pressures of making “Wonder Woman” to other classics like “Superman” or “Batman Begins”. He goes on to say;

Every day seemed like a challenge because it was such a big and complicated movie. Just the knowledge that we were doing Wonder Woman’s story, solo, a movie that a lot of people had been trying to get off the ground for over 20 years, and she is one of the pop culture icons, so there was a lot of pressure on us to do it correctly. We were setting out to make something close to Richard Donner’s Superman or Batman Begins. We wanted to do her story that kind of justice so every day felt like we had that monkey on our back.

Considering the parallels I get the comparison. “Batman Begins” was trying to rejuvenate the Batman brand after the previous two films. “Superman” was the first truly successful film of the superhero era, and considering “Wonder Woman” is part of that DC Holy Trinity, I understand having to live up to the expectations.

‘Silver and Black’ to Feature Spider-Man Characters Unseen Before – Splash Report is claiming to have a source within the “Silver and Black” camp and revealed to them some details about the upcoming film. For those unaware, “Silver and Black” will feature Silver Sable and Black Cat.

Here’s what the website reported;

Seven years after Mendel Stromm (a.k.a. Robot Master) and his two henchmen (The Scorpion and The Tarantula) killed her father, Silver Sable is hired by the government to find Felicia Hardy. The Black Cat, a master hacker and thief, has apparently stolen valuable secret information. She’s hiding in the lawless and dangerous triple frontier area between Paraguay, Argentina and Brazil.

Once there, Sable ask her old contact Dmitri Smerdyakov (a.k.a. The Chameleon) to locate her. But it seems, the government are not the only ones looking for the Black Cat. It seems Felicia had made a deal Stromm to save her father from a Russian prison and she’s been genetically enhanced. Now, the mad scientist wants his prized experiment back because his financier (cough Norman Osborn cough) wants a return on his investment.

The report mentions that Dominic Fortune, Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman, Sergei Kravinoff/Kraven the Hunter, Lonnie Lincoln/Tombstone, and Charles Standish in some capacity.

The Spider-Verse is being built around the upcoming “Venom” film starring Tom Hardy and this film, but they’re also anticipating Spider-Man himself in a few years. The deal with Marvel isn’t a firm rights deal, and Sony still retains the character, and intends on using him in their universe in a few years times. So I’m not miffed at all, and even if Spider-Man never joins this universe, the characters are deep and rich enough as is without him to thrive.

Speculation on Joss Whedon Working on Justice League – There’s rumors that Joss Whedon was apart of the “Justice League” film prior to Zach Snyder’s departure. This has a lot of people wondering why.

No, I don’t think it has to do with Whedon taking over Snyder. No. I think it’s a lot simpler; Barbara Gordan, Ya’ll. I think Barbra Gordon is going to have a cameo in this film, and Whedon is involved with her scenes. This is only a guess, but we’ve seen similar situations before.

Quick Hits – ‘Captain Marvel’ to feature ties from ‘Ant-Man’. Chris Pine thinks men are stupid.
