‘Riverdale’ Shuts Down Production and More Nerd News

Today saw a rough start as Luke Perry, who played Fred Andrews on the hit CW show Riverdale, pass away at 52.  Perry suffered a stroke about five days ago, and was heavily sedated in hopes his condition would improve.  It did not, and he unfortunately passed away.  The passing comes at a time when his son, known as Jungle Boy on the wrestling scene, was just making huge career waves of his own by joining up with the fledgling but heavily backed All Elite Wrestling.

Perry’s passing will see some major changes come to Riverdale, first and foremost the handling of his character going forward.  Gone are the days of re-castings unless for major financial films, so it’s either going to be a situation where the Fred-character leaves Riverdale for good, or is killed off on the show, like we’ve seen in other shows.

In response to the news, the show has shut down production for the foreseeable future.  While many are upset and mourning, it’s important to note that the show must resume filming again, and when it does don’t be surprised to see it up and running sooner rather than later.

Outpouring of support from the staff is everywhere on social media today, and I hope that’s of at least a little comfort to those closest to Perry.  Perry had revived his career since joining up with Riverdale, and for him to pass away so young, and so suddenly will be a pain that will take some time to alleviate.

In some more uplifting news, the second Shazam! trailer has dropped and it looks fantastic.  The ending bit alone has me sold on this film.

Quick Hits – Ben Affleck says the next Batman will be ‘younger’ and ‘just starting out’.  There are rumors of a Hanna-Barbera cinematic universe with the news that Tracey Morgan will play Captain Caveman in the reboot of the Scooby-Doo franchise.
