No New Star Wars Films (in Excess)?, Who’s Got the X-Men and More! – ComicCorp News

Not So Fast, Star Wars! – Disney CEO Bob Iger is putting his foot down when he says ‘NO NEW STAR WARS FILMS!’….or at least less new Star Wars films.  After the disaster that was Solo, and The Last Jedi Iger made the call to pull back on the amount of new Star Wars films.  Despite everyone and their mother knowing that this was a bad idea, and that the specialness of Star Wars was that it wasn’t an every year franchise.  Iger is quoted by the Hollywood Reporter as saying;

I made the timing decision, and as I look back, I think the mistake that I made — I take the blame — was a little too much, too fast. You can expect some slowdown, but that doesn’t mean we’re not gonna make films. J.J. [Abrams] is busy making [Episode] IX. We have creative entities, including [Game of Thrones creators David] Benioff and [D.B.] Weiss, who are developing sagas of their own, which we haven’t been specific about. And we are just at the point where we’re gonna start making decisions about what comes next after J.J.’s. But I think we’re gonna be a little bit more careful about volume and timing. And the buck stops here on that.

What is telling in that quote is that the long rumored Rian Johnson saga was not mentioned.  Normally, that could be written off as an omission but besides the over abundance of new Star Wars films, the largest issue fans had was with his representation of the Last Jedi.  If Iger is listening to fans about the number of films, then Johnson’s omission in that quote can’t be viewed as coincidental, especially considering refutable sources claiming that Johnson’s saga was already cancelled after the wake of the failed (in the eyes of the fans) Last Jedi.

Future of X-Men Revealed – Iger continued to the Hollywood Reporter, revealing that Kevin Feige will inherit the X-Men franchise once the deal with Fox is resolved and Marvel re-absorbs their old properties in the acquisition.  When asked about the talent coming over, Iger was quick to point out that abilities will win out, saying;

Very good question. We’re going to take the best people from both companies and that’s who’s gonna basically be on the playing field for us. Meaning, talent will prevail. Fox Searchlight is a great example. You look at FX, NatGeo. Yeah, you’re buying libraries and brands, but you’re also buying the people. I’m not gonna talk about specific people right now except to say that I’ve met with virtually the entire senior management team at Fox and I’m not only fully engaged with them on what the possibilities for them might be but I’m excited about the prospects.

Quick HitsVeronica Mars will get an 8 episode order for Hulu, that will begin airing in 2019.  LeBron James will team up with famed director Ryan Coogler for a sequel (or reboot I’ve heard) of Space Jam (2?), and the duo are open to Michael Jordan returning to the franchise.  After leaving Dark Horse Comics, which housed the entity since 2007, BOOM! Studios will be the new publisher of all things Buffy (comics) related going forward.  The Channing Tatum Gambit film is expected to start filming in February of next year, this according to The GWW (never heard of them, take it with a grain of salt).  Bond 25 will feature Cary Joji Fukunaga in the role of director, which actually (assuming my quick research is correct) will make him the first American born director in Bond history (of the Eon Films cannon).
