5 Pro Wrestling Things You Need to Know from Last Week

Jeff Cobb Debuts in ROH

Now, he hasn’t signed with them and he wants you to REALLY know this, but Jeff Cobb made his Ring of Honor debut over the last few days.  Cobb, who is currently working in New Japan and Lucha Underground (as Matanza Cueto) has been linked to IMPACT Wrestling in recent months as someone high on their radar.  With Cobb showing up in ROH, that does not detour that rumor at all, as IMPACT’s own Austin Aries shows up there from time to time.  Cobb, 36 debuted and attacked a “potential” Top Prospect Tournament match between Eli Isom and F.R. Josie.

Cody and Company are Champs

Cody Rhodes and the Young Bucks made history over the weekend by defeating The Kingdom to win the ROH Six Man Tag Team Championships.  This is the first reign for the trio, and second overall for the ROH version for the Bucks.  Cody has held tag team gold before with Hardcore Holly, Ted DiBiase Jr., his brother Goldust and now the Bucks.  This follows the Season 7 teaser trailer for Arrow that features Cody reprising his role as Sampson.   Following the win, Matt Taven (the leader of the Kingdom) went to Social Media to call out ROH’s Bullet Club bias.

Pentagon and Sami Goes Five Stars

Sami Callihan and Pentagon Jr (Pentagon Dark/Penta El 0M) went at it last night at Slammiversary’s 16th Anniversary Show.  The bout was a Lucha de Apuestas match.  A spanish term for a betting match, each person had to gamble something they loved.  For Pentagon his mask, for Callihan his hair.  The climax saw Pentagon put Callihan down and by proxy his hair.  The match was bloody, violent and pushed the bounds of human decency; so it’s no wonder I gave it a perfect score of Five Stars.  It’ll be a Match of the Year qualifier fore sure.

Austin Aries Is The Man

In what many thought would be Moose’s crowning moment as IMPACT World Champion, the company flipped the scripted and instead told a different story; Austin Aries is an all time great.  Aries had a marvelous match with Moose, easily one of if not Moose’s best match of his career.  Both men deserve oodles of credit thrown their way, but especially Aries.  Aries was praised online following the bout, and many took the time to credit him as one of the best going today.  Many are now looking to a potential rematch at Bound for Glory for these two, we’ll have to see if and who the company taps to be Aries future opponent.  There’s also a potential of Aries losing the belt before then, but we’ll have to wait and see how the tapings go tonight.
