First Official Look at ‘Shazam!’, RoboCop Returns a Go? and More! – ComicCorp News

First Official Look at Shazam – The first look at Zachary Levi as the titular Shazam! has been released to the public, as first posted by Entertainment Weekly.  The first look sees Zachary Levi’s Shazam drinking what appears to be pop with Jack Dylan Grazer’s Freddy Freeman.

There are some coming out who aren’t a fan of the suit, but director David F. Sandberg is defending the suit, saying;

I don’t know if [the suit is] crazy big if you look at some of the others — look at Batman.  I wanted to keep the shorter cape as a throwback to the original because that’s something that sets him apart from Superman or Batman. It makes him feel a bit more Golden Age superhero, which is the vibe I’m going for

And he’s right, as all the Batman suits since Tim Burton’s spin with the character has shown him to be more muscular than normal.  Even Snyder’s taker on Superman was beefer than the actor, Henry Cavil actually was.  For is part, the normally very lean Levy did put a lot of muscle on for the role, as you can tell by his Instagram account.

I for one, love the suit.  I wish it had the flowing fabric belt instead, but that’s a preference, not a gripe.

RoboCop Sequel Coming?  – MGM is moving forward with a new installment in the RoboCop franchise.  According to Deadline, MGM has picked Neill Blomkamp of District 9 fame to direct the project, currently dubbed RoboCop Returns.  The film will see original RoboCop writer Ed Neumeier serve as a producer, with Michael Miner attached as an executive producer.   Justin Rhodes, who co-wrote Tim Miller’s new Terminator script, will write the script to RoboCop Returns.  This version of the film was supposed to be the “true sequel” to the first film but was never made.

Y: The Last Man Cast – FX is going ahead with Brian K. Vaughan and Pia Guerra’s Y: The Last Man, and will see Barry Keogan of Dunkirk fame play the titular role of Yorick.  Diane Lane will play yorick’s mother, Senator Jennifer Brown.  also announced was Imogen Poots as Yorick’s older sister and Lashana Lynch as Agent 355, who escorts Yorick for most of the series.   Juliana Canfield will play Yorick’s love interest Beth, whom he spends the series looking for and Marin Ireland will play Presidential Assistant Nora.  Production begins in July , and Melina Matsoukas will direct.

Quick HitsDragon Ball Super may be over for some, but the dubbed episodes are still coming.  The episodes will be up on Funimation a few weeks before their DVD release.  Kristen Kreuk told Comicbook.com that she’d be interested in a Smallville animated revival, saying; “Yeah, absolutely.  I’ve never thought about it, but that sounds like it could be a lot of fun.”  Arrow Season 7 character breakdown has lead some to speculate Batwoman will make her debut.
