DCEU Movie News, Gotham City Sirens Scrapped? Starfire Casting and More! – ComicCorp News

So much DCEU film news, so little time.

More DCEU Movie News – First and foremost, the DCEU is not splinting into other universes, so let’s clear that up now. Matt Reeves clarified his comments, stating that his “The Batman” film won’t involve the extended universes other character bu twill exist in the same continuity. He tweeted;

I was talking about The Batman being a story specifically about Batman…not about the others in the Universe,” he said. “That it wouldn’t be filled with cameos servicing other stories — that it would be a BATMAN story

This lead others to run with other unconfirmed stories.

However, a new report has Warner Bros. fast tracking a Joker/Harley Quinn movie and a Suicide Squad 2 film. The Harley Quinn and Joker film will replace the proposed “Gotham City Sirens” film. Rumors are circulating that David Ayers has left Warner Bros. and part of the reason for the reshuffling has to do with that. DC and W.B. however want to focus on more indirectly tied films as well. Less crossovers and more stand alone’s. They’ll be cannon but won’t rely on other franchises involvement.

Titan’s Cast Starfire – In a move that’s going to lead many scratching their heads, the folks at DC have cast Anna Diop to play Starfire. Yes Diop is in fact black, however that’s not the controversial aspect. The controversial nature of the hiring is that she’ll be 30 soon, and the show’s about teenagers. Or at least that’s how it was expected to be. After all, the young girl playing Raven is no more than 13. The character too seems extremely different, with the press release describing Starfire as;

…an alien princess from a warrior planet who seeks asylum on Earth. A no-nonsense, take-no-prisoners stranger on our world, Starfire has the ability to shoot energy bolts and fly. Searching for her place on Earth, she’ll come into contact with the Titans.

Starfire has a radically different personality, one more akin to a starstruck individual, in awe of her new surroundings and humorously adapting to the world around her. She joins Teagan Croft as the first two announced.

Opinion: I made a joke on Twitter about expecting an 80 year old actor playing Dick Grayson and a 2 year old playing Beast Boy, but I don’t think we’re far off here. The casting of Diop has put the show in an odd place. Are they not teenagers? Are they even going to worry about keeping them relatively the same age?

Marvel TV Developments? – Marvel TV is apparently developing a new t.v. series that would be ‘Jessica Jones-like’. No idea what that means, but it comes hand in hand with the report that Marvel also wants a comedy series in the vein of “Damage Control”, or DC’s “Powerless”. ABC passed on “Damage Control”, while “Powerless” was cancelled after one season.

Quick Hits: Mon-El’s disappearance at the end of “Supergirl’s” second season will be a major plot point this season. Steven Ogg of Walking Dead (Simon), has revealed that season eight will “thin the heard” in terms of number of major characters.
