Constantine News – John Constantine is poised for a big 2017 and 2018. It was announced over the weekend that Matt Ryan will reprise his role as Constantine for the upcoming third season of “Legends of Tomorrow”, where he’ll show up in a two episode crossover in episodes nine and ten. He has not been seen since Arrow’s fourth season, where he brought back Sara Lance’s soul. Executive Producer of the series, Phil Klemmer; revealed the details of sorts of his return.
His appearance in Episode 310 will involve the following: a revisiting of Arrow Season 4 and the events following that season’s finale episode; a confrontation with this season’s Big Bad on Legends — the name we’ve only heard whispered until now, Mallus; some hot sex — something that has been in short supply on the Waverider thus far in Season 3; and Damien Darhk (Neil McDonough), because how can you do an episode about dark magic and not have Damien Darhk? More than anything, the episode promises to be scary as you know what — tonally it’s The Exorcist meets One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest. Demonic possession in a mental institution, what’s not to love?
However, Constantine will be getting his own animated series on the CW Seed next to “Vixen” and “Freedom Fighter: The Ray”. However, unlike those two, there are rumors that CW is still trying to get a new series going. One of the reasons to revive the “Constantine” series is obviously expending and expanding the Arrowverse past just “Arrow”. Stephen Amell seems more and more likely to walk away from his role sooner, rather than later. So it makes sense to start developing the next arc of series if the CW wants to continue with their comic brand. Constantine also serves another niche for the CW network. CW has had a 16 year relationship with comic book shows, but arguably a 20 year + relationship with supernatural themed shows. With “iZombie” likely not getting a fifth season, and “Supernatural” near the end of their legendary run, the CW doesn’t have any other supernatural shows. Constantine could serve as that new legacy show, alongside the new “Sabrina” series.
To prep fans for the Constantine series, CW released a video looking at three minutes of footage of the animated series. There is blood, gore and swearing.
This all-new animated series from Warner Bros. Animation and Blue Ribbon Content follows DC’s popular comic book character John Constantine (voiced by the live action series star Matt Ryan), a seasoned demon hunter and master of the occult. Armed with an arcane knowledge of the dark arts and a wicked wit, he fights the good fight. With his soul already damned to hell, he’ll do whatever it takes to protect the innocent. With the balance of good and evil on the line, Constantine uses his skills to face the supernatural terrors that threaten our world and send them back where they belong. After that, who knows… maybe there’s hope for him and his soul after all.
Executive produced by David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight trilogy, Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, Constantine [live action series]. upcoming Krypton), Greg Berlanti (The Flash, Arrow, Supergirl), and Sarah Schechter (Blindspot, Riverdale, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow), the series, which will premiere on CW Seed in early 2018, is produced by Butch Lukic (Justice League Action, Batman Unlimited), written by J.M. DeMatteis (Justice League Dark, Batman vs. Robin) and directed by Doug Murphy (Justice League Action, Young Justice).
Opinion: While I wished they’d retcon Constantine’s smoking, I’m excited for this series. Especially with the notion that Constantine is leading god like creators around, helping them eat demons. That seems fun.
“Teen Titans: Go!” Movie Adds Stars – The upcoming movie is scheduled to feature some prime time talent, as Kristen Bell and Will Arnett were all added to the cast of the upcoming film. Both have had major success as voice actors.
There’s no word on what role Bell would have, but it’s very likely they’re bringing in Will Arnett to play Batman, as he’s already had two stints as the Caped Crusader in several Lego Movie productions. DC has a love of legacy characters, and actors portraying said characters. They value when actors return to franchises to either reprise their role, or help pass the reigns to a new actor(c)s.
Series stars, Greg Cipes, Scott Menville, Khary Payton, Tara Strong and Hynden Walch are all returning to their roles of Beast Boy, Robin, Cyborg, Raven, and Starfire, respectively.
