Why Did Disney Ditch the Star Wars Extended Universe? Disney Ending Marvel Cartoons? and More! – ComiCorp News

Why Disney Ditched Extended Universe? – I don’t buy this story for one second, not one second. During an interview with Lucasfilm Story Group member, Leland Chee via SyFy, the decision to destroy years of cannon came to one character. Chee is someone who oversees the official “Wookieepedia” site, so if anyone knows this, he would. Chee goes on to sell Syfy the reason why they abandoned decades of compelling stories, saying;

For me it came down to simply that we had killed Chewbacca in the Legends — a big moon had fallen on him. Part of that [original decision] was Chewbacca, because he can’t speak and just speaks in growls, he was a challenging character to write for in novels. Publishing had decided they needed to kill somebody, and it was Chewbacca.

But if you have the opportunity to bring back Chewbacca into a live action film, you’re not gonna deprive fans that. There’s no way that I’d want to do an Episode VII that didn’t have Chewbacca in it and have to explain that Chewbacca had a moon fall on his head. And if we were going to overturn a monumental decision like that, everything else was really just minor in comparison.

Opinoin: I say boo to this. I say boo and hiss to all of that. They got rid of the EU because there was no films, no way to market it and rebrand it with the Disney logo and no way to spin it into something that’s Disney-centric. Chewbacca AT BEST is everyone’s 9th favorite character. He’s not that important. Like R2-D2 or C-3PO, we don’t need them, but it’s cool if they show up. Shit, Chewbacca had what, 10 minutes of air time in between two movies? Come on, don’t play us like that. If Disney could get away with rebooting the whole franchise, they would.

Disney Ending all Marvel Cartoons? – Spoiler TV is claiming that Disney is thinking about ending Marvel’s animated universe. Those shows being, Avengers Assemble, Guardians of the Galaxy and the newly launched Spider-Man series. Apparently all of the crew on those shows have been laid off, and the finals will air in a few months. The series air on Disney XD, which isn’t exactly a ratings giant; so costs are high and may not be profitable anymore. There is always the possibility that they may revise their series, after all looking at DC’s “Teen Titans Go!” and the ratings juggernaut that it is for WB and Cartoon Network is pretty intimidating. DC has whooped Marvel in all ways except film, and I’m sure Marvel’s ego is taking a beating because of it. So if I was a betting man, I’d expect to see Disney XD series go more over the top in it’s humor and animation, like Teen Titans Go! did.

Quick Hits – Star Wars actor John Boyega is a huge Naruto fan apparently. It’s not news, just a reason to like him more. Actress Danny Garcia will return to “Fear the Walking Dead” in season four, confirmed on her Instagram page. Fox’s “Family Guy” had lead character Peter Griffen dress up as Deadpool for last night’s 300th episode. Kevin Smith believes that the Millennium Falcon is the next ‘character’ to bite it in the new trilogy.
