John Cena’s WrestleMania opponent should be a bigger deal

According to Dave Meltzer, the WWE is preparing for a lackluster WrestleMania bout for John Cena, and it’s a sign that Vince McMahon just doesn’t care anymore.

John Cena is apparently penciled in to face off with the guitar strumming Elias at WrestleMania, and boy is that underwhelming. The WWE has made it their mission to load up the Blood Money events in Saudi Arabia with the biggest stars and the best match up’s, even if the matches are toned down.

At WrestleMania, Cena should be used to bolster sales. Everything Cena does should be presented in the biggest light imaginable. Yet, for the last six years, Cena hasn’t done anything of significance at ‘Mania. Not since he went back-to-back with The Rock. Cena should be presented like Hiroshi Tanahashi, they’re nearly the same age, and Cena is just as capable still as he used to be.

I’m not sitting here saying Cena should be in the main event or that he’s a great hand and should be treated as such. What I’m saying is that Cena is a big name and if you want to get the most out of him, put him with big names.

Elias is great, but he’s not on Cena’s level. A loss to Cena wouldn’t help him out and honestly, a win wouldn’t either. WWE’s booking is bad and inconsistent that even if Elias won, he’d be forgotten about weeks later. Just like what happened with Rusev, and Bray Wyatt. It took Wyatt five years to bounce back.

With big names like Goldberg, Daniel Bryan, Samoa Joe, and others available for the event, big names that Cena would match well with, the WWE is going the same route as always. Give Cena an actual competitor for the event and watch how much buzz gets created. Elias can face off for the US title or in the Battle Royal. He’s a good hand but he’s not the name that people are tuning into to see.

Hell, Cena and Roman Reigns for the title could be a lot of fun. Keep it short, do big power moves and maybe, just maybe you could have an entertaining match worthy of WrestleMania.
