Psych the Movie Gets Sequel and More Nerd News!

Psych is getting a sequel film.  The popular USA series ended to much fanfare several years ago, but the fan base stayed passionate and USA execs opted to do a reunion film of sorts.  Complications arose when Tomothy Omundson suffered a stroke and could only appear in a brief cameo, though the film was largely met with a warm reception from the fans.

The success of the film has lead to a now announced sequel, which if I’m a betting man, will finally see Juliet and Shawn, two of the four main characters, finally getting married.

The whole cast is back for this film, with a story line involving Omundson’s Carlton Lassiter being shot whlie on the job, “and left for dead”.   Here’s the official synopsis from USA;\

In a vintage Psych-style Hitchcockian nod, Lassie begins to see impossible happenings around his recovery clinic. Shawn and Gus return to the Chief’s side in Santa Barbara and are forced to navigate the personal, the professional, and possibly the supernatural. Separated from their new lives in San Francisco, our heroes find themselves unwelcome in their old stomping grounds as they secretly untangle a twisted case without the benefit of the police, their loved ones, or the quality sourdough bakeries of the Bay Area. What they uncover will change the course of their relationships forever.

It sounds like betrayal happens, and that just sounds like a damn good time to me.

Speaking of Carltons’, Alfonso Ribeiro was handed a devastating blow in his attempt to sue Fortnite.  Ribeiro was suing the game for, in his opinion, illegally using the ‘Carlton Dance’, popularized in the 90’s sitcom Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. The U.S. Copyright Office informed Ribeiro’s lawyer that the three-step dance was nothing more than a ‘simple dance routine’.   This will set a precedent for all the other Fortnite lawsuits against developer Epic Games, so expect all of those to be struct down, as they’re all over similar claims.  It should be noted that Ribeiro’s lawsuit is still going forward, but now he’ll no longer be able to claim Epic stole his intellectual property based on copyright claims.

DC Entertainment, Nickelodeon and IDW Publishing are partnering to do a third part in the Batman/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles crossover series.  The third part will be written by James Tynion IV and Freddie Williams II.  This year marks the 80th and 35th anniversaries of Batman and the Turtles respectively.  The six issue series is expected to debut on May 1st, 2019.

This comes off the heels of another major announcement, that the Turtles and Batman will star in a co-promoted film entitled; Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.  It’ll be out in the Spring on 4K, Blu-Ray and Digital Download, and will be an animated adaptation on the first volume in the Batman/Turtles trinity of stories.
