Activision’s Shocking Layoff’s and More Nerd News

In old news by now, reports are circulating from multiple outlets that Activision-Blizzard has laid off a whopping 800 employees after reports broke last week of pending layoffs.

I don’t think anyone thought it’d be this many.

According to those reports, those fired were given a “comprehensive service package”, as well as assistance in finding new work.  So there’s that.

Blizzard President cited “….out of proportion” staff levels, specifically on the non-development side of things.  The layoffs reached across Activision-proper, Blizzard and King; all this despite the company reaching the best “financial results” in the brands history.

When you fire 800 people at once, because you’re overstaffed, following your best year ever financially, you’ve fucked up.  This is why Triple-A games are constantly chided for their poor management.

This should never of been an issue.
