Rian Johnson Can’t Accept his Movie Sucked, Tarantino Not Directing ‘Star Trek’? and More! – ComicCorp News

Rian Johnson is Delusional – Rian Johnson should seek help.  He’s beyond delusional

adjective
  1. characterized by or holding idiosyncratic beliefs or impressions that are contradicted by reality or rational argument, typically as a symptom of mental disorder.

Johnson is still on a crusade to try and paint “The Last Jedi” as a movie that fans raved about.  Buddy, dude, my man….you’re insane if you think 90% of the audience loved your film.  Now, the exact quote that he’s being attributed is that 90% of his online interactions with fans are positive and they rave about his movie.  Yet, you could also say that’s exactly the narrative you want to paint if you’re struggling to sell things to a fanbase.  One of ‘acceptance’.  Here’s his exact quote;

There were death threats. It’s balanced by a few things — 90 percent of the stuff I got online was not only lovely and encouraging but phenomenally thoughtful.  Fans would send me essays on the movie. The other 10 percent is just loud and gets amplified. At first I was freaked out but then I realized the things people were angry about are the things I’m most proud about.

I’m not for death threats.  That’s obviously crossing a line, and frankly were done by juvenile fans who can’t express their anger in a more concise way.  Yet, to perpetuate the notion that an overwhelming amount of fans liked this film and that the ones who are most negative are just being amplified is a fucking lie.

So clearly only (Disney owned) critics tweet Johnson.  I’m not being dramatic at all when I say the special feeling this franchise had is gone.   Welcome to the world of 20 Star Wars films over the next decade.  Yippee.

Star Trek Alum Back for Discovery? – Johnathon Frakes has essentially become the George Lucas of the ‘Trek franchise.  While not an original member of the crew in the 60’s, he joined up in the late 80’s and has since acted, directed and wrote in just about every iteration of the Trek franchise from the ‘Next Generation’ era all the way through ‘Enterprise’.   Last year he signed up to help bring ‘Star Trek: Discovery’ to the CBS digital app.  He directed the episode ‘Despite Yourself’, which brought the franchise back to the mirror universe.  Frakes is also a big proponent of Seth Macfarlane’s Star-Trek comedy-clone, “The Orville”.   It’s a good time to be a fan of ‘Trek’.

Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Trek’ May Not Happen – This parlay’s off of the previous story.  Frakes, again, is the Godfather of the franchise.  His word (one would hope) carries clout.  So while everyone is getting excited over a possible Quentin Tarantino Trek film, Frakes isn’t sure.   When asked about Tarantion’s involvement,  Frakes said;

I’m fascinated by the possibility of this. I am not convinced that that’s going to be real and I am not sure that Quentin’s gestalt and what he is known for is quite in the same wheelhouse of what we have all known Star Trek to be.

Zachary Quinto, this generation’s Spock has revealed there are at least three scripts at least being considered.  So clearly the honcho’s who run ‘Trek isn’t sold on Tarantino.   Frankly, neither am I.   I find his work to be hit or miss, and fans tune into franchises to see MORE of what they love.  Not less, or different.    Tarantino should make his own space-based movie.  Or take over the Cloverfield film franchise.  Not something with 50+ years of history and tradition.

Quick Hits – Justice League’s  Steppenwolf was almost a lot more horrifying.  The film featured a far less menacing version, with his face being far more revealed.   Japanese politicians showed up to a ceremony for the Enkei Gekijou Kurayoshi Figure Museum in Kurayoshi City in full Dragon Ball Z garb.  It’s awesome.
