The retro award nominees are picked only from the games that were reviewed in the given calendar year. So if an all-time classic isn’t winning a specific award, it’s because it wasn’t reviewed. Games can only be nominated in the year they were reviewed, and can’t be reviewed twice.
*The Modern Game Award is given to the most recent game of the previous consoles that were reviewed. Games from the fifth generation and on are eligible, but no game from the eighth generation can be eligible yet.
