Marvel Writer Proves Fans Are Fucking Dumb and More Nerd News

Marvel writer Donny Cates is receiving apparent death threats over a decision he made on the Venom book.  Apparently fans have taken to ‘shipping’ Eddie Brock, the man behind the symbiote and the alien organism that molds with him to form the anti-hero Venom.  For those unaware, ‘shipping’ is the practice of romantically and sexually pairing up fictional characters to fulfill unsubstantiated romantic interests.

The practice is fucking weird.

Well apparently fans have been writing Brock and the symbiote as a sexual item and when Cates had the audacity to present an alien parasite/human relationship as toxic fans freaked out.  Fans mind you of an alien that takes over the emotional stability and actions of the human it forces itself on, and refuses to relinquish control of unless driven away through high pitch frequencies.

Jokes aside, the Venom-symbiote has always been a necessary evil, and its effects on it’s victim are well known to be problematic.  These are probably the same people who hate that Harley Quinn isn’t still getting beat by The Joker on the regular.

In Other News…

A new trailer for Detective Pikachu came out, one much better than the ‘teaser’.  It shows more of the story, signs of Mewtwo and more intriguing aspects of the film that have actually made me want to see the flick now.  Sort of.

Fans of the Walmart sold DC Comics, had some interesting news drop on them recently.  Ryan Higgins, a comic shop owner recently revealed that the Walmart-exclusive books would be ending, replaced by a new 100-page specials that would be available everywhere.   These books would be 48 pages of new content (probably 12 pages of ads) and the rest classic content.

DC Co-Publisher Dan Didio, the bane of my existence, recently posted on Facebook, saying;

For those fans of the DC Giants at Walmart, have to clear up some misinformation making the rounds. Just want to let you know these books are doing well, so well that we are looking to expand the number of original pages in each book and include distribution to the direct market.

Essentially confirming the original post.

Quick Hits Ezra Miller claims The Flash film isn’t happening yet due to a ‘commitment to quality‘.  Variety is reporting that Gremlins is getting an animated series and boy-howdy, I can’t wait to see how awful/amazing this ends up being.  DC Comics is apparently considering opening a DC-themed restaurant in the UK.
