IMPACT News Coming Out of Las Vegas (Spoilers)

Warning – SPOILERS BELOW

Big news came out of the IMPACT tapings in Las Vegas, not the least of which was that Gail Kim announced her return to the ring.  While mentioned in the news post today, it’s unsure whether or not it’s just a one time deal or a somewhat full time return to competition.

Beyond Kim’s recent feud with Tessa Blanchard, whom she’ll have her return match with, Taya Valkyrie has also expressed interest in combating the Greatest Women’s Wrestler of All Time and mother of the Knockouts Division.

Then you throw in Jordynne Grace, Su Yung, Alisha Edwards, Kiera Hogan and another go-around with Allie, and there are a few women on the roster who could give Kim something interesting in the ring.

But Kim’s return isn’t the only big news that came out talent wise from the weekend.  A big signing has occurred and Kenny the Kendo Stick has agreed to a new deal!  Well, not really but Eddie Edwards has!  The deal is “long-term” which usually for the company is 18-24 months.  Yet, Eddie signed a three year deal last time in 2016, alongside then partner Davey Richards.  Eddie and his wife, Alisha are both talents in the company and are used quite often.  With Eddie’s recent developments in 2018 as a character, and his being happy working with his wife, i have to imagine he signed a similar deal abut for more money.

After all, according to Chris Jericho, it’s not like IMPACT is lacking on funds.

On top of that, several talents saw their return to the promotion.  The Reno Scum,  Daga, Tommy Dreamer, Disco Inferno, Kikutaro, and allegedly Paul London all popped up, with Sawyer Fulton being seen backstage.  Luchasaurus also debuted against top indy prospect Chris Bey, though not sure what Luchasaurus will be doing long term for the promotion.

Another name of note that was on hand for some festivities was the Sinister Minister himself, James Mitchell.  Ever since Anthem took over, he’s been doing more and more guest appearances and worked a few shows after Bound for Glory in backstage segments, with Su Yung, Allie and Rosemary.  It’s likely he’ll pop up at some point on these shows as well.  There used to be a rumor going around that Mitchell sang Elvis cover songs in Las Vegas, but that might just be a rumor.  However, he still lives in Orlando, so like Ace Austin and a few others, he’d only be in town if IMPACT had plans for him.

Not only that but new faces popped up as well.  It looks like the company has plans for top indy prospect Ace Austin, as he worked two different matches on two different days.  The first with Jake Atlas and the second with Damien Drake.  As most of Austin’s matches have come out of the Pennsylvania/Ohio region, it’s safe to say the company is bringing him on for an extended period.

Delilah Doom also finally debuted with the promotion.  IMPACT Wrestling meant to bring her in last year but injuries to her and Shotzi Blackheart stifled those plans.  The two were meant to headline an all women’s show co-produced by IMPACT Wrestling, but their injuries meant a change of plans.  It did lead to an amazing match with Tessa Blanchard and Mercedes Martinez, but the loss was still felt.  Doom has a unique look that will cater to all ages on a variety of levels.  Embracing the 80’s classic Goonies with her cleverly worded ‘Doomies Never Say Die’ moniker, she’s bright and colorful with a whimsical attitude.  She also is adorned with tattoos, and has (I guess I’ll call it) ‘Pony Punk’ look.  She’s punk, but if it was made by My Little Pony.  However, seeing as she’s out of California, she might just be appearing for the Las Vegas tapings, like Kikutaro and Disco.

As for Reno Scum, we’re scheduled to interviewing Adam Thornstowe of the Reno Scum later today.  As the duo are named after Reno,  Nevada and Thornstowe lives around the area of the tapings, it’s clear they’re from the area.  However this is their return to the promotion, so we’ll ask if it’s just for these three shows (for now) or if they’re back under a deal with the promotion going forward.

Some of the bigger angles coming out of this weeks set of tapings include Johnny Impact and Taya turning heel and aligning with Killer Kross to feud with Brian Cage.  As of right now that’s the headline match for Rebellion and honestly; about time.  Johnny Impact’s Twitter beef with Austin Aries around Bound for Glory got real and really upped when Impact started body shaming Aries.  They held off on pulling that trigger but that’s no longer the case.

They’re still building up the Eddie Edwards and Eli Drake angle, setting up a match at Rebellion against the Desi Hit Squad.   I’d imagine that we would see Alisha and Gama Sing either at ringside or in the match as well.

Scarlett Bordeaux made her in ring debut against Disco Inferno, so give it to Disco, he worked the whole industry with his comments last week about how he views women in wrestling.  Bordeaux even went over, so kudos to Glenn Gilberti for finally doing something right.

The other title fights for Rebellion appear to be Grace vs. Valkyrie and a rematch of LAX vs. the Lucha Bros.

oVe still continue their feud with Rich Swann, Willie Mack and the returning Tommy Dreamer.  The six already had a triple threat match on the tapings, so it could very well be a situation where oVe take on Mack and Swann, while Callihan and Dreamer go one on one.

If I had to guess, here’s the Rebellion’s card;

IMPACT World Championship
Brian Cage vs. Johnny Impact (c)

IMPACT World Tag Team Championship
LAX vs. Lucha Bros (c)

IMPACT Knockouts Championship
Jordynne Grace vs. Su Yung (c)

Intergender Six Man Tag
The Desi Hit Squad vs. Eli Drake, Eddie Edwards and Alisha Edwards

Gail Kim vs. Tessa Blanchard

oVe vs. Rich Swann and Willie Mack

Hardcore Match
Tommy Dreamer vs. Sami Callihan

The attendance for the first two nights were strong I’m told, but I’m unsure of the third night.  Considering most tickets sold were package deals, I’d have to imagine all three nights saw good numbers.  I’m told there was a genuine feeling that some of the shows were full to capacity or just below, so that’s a strong showing.
