Paige Blames Fans for Holding Fans Back, Not the WWE and More Wrestling News

No one tell Paige she’s wrong.  Don’t do it, you guys.  Don’t.  Just…ugh…fuck it, PAIGE IS WRONG.  Toeing the WWE line like a good stooge, Paige didn’t blame the WWE for holding women back, no she blamed THE FANS.  The very same people who started the movement on behalf of the then named Divas.

Maybe that terms still has merit in Paige’s case.

While talking doing a media scrum of sorts, she blamed the fans of the WWE and pro wrestling for THEM (*yup*) holding back the women, saying;

It was never WWE holding the women back.  It was the fans not taking them seriously. They wanted to see more of the male characters many years ago. It was a male dominated sport. When I first started, there were only five women there. It was a struggle but WWE just believed in us. When I got into the ring, I wanted to prove to the fans that girls were capable of having good matches and sometimes, even better. That was kind of my mission from the get go. Now there’s obviously a revolution

Follow the logic; The WWE is a promotion.  They promote wrestlers and matches.  If the fans don’t take a certain wrestler or match seriously enough, it’s because the promotion did not put any significant stock in them.  Ergo, THE WWE IS AT FAULT.  Never mind that Shimmer, WSU, ROH and IMPACT Wrestling regularly featured female athletes competing in big matches at this at this time; though ROH was a working relationship with Shimmer, not their own division.  Let’s ignore history for revisionist propaganda.

Good job, Paige.  For Paige’s next trick, she’s going to tell us why Saudi Arabia is a tubular place, and why Corey Graves is an alright guy.

In Other News…

Chris Jericho is ruining the flow of today’s article; you see I had three female-centric stories but this one is too big to not put second.  Chris Jericho has just alleged that IMPACT Wrestling is not only not in danger of going anywhere but has shockingly deep pockets to boot.  While talking to the Wrestling Observer Radio, Jericho revealed that IMPACT Wrestling gave him a seven figure deal, for four matches.  He said mid-seven, but I have a hard time believing IMPACT was throwing around 4-6 million dollars on four matches.  I could see $250,000 per match, but not $1.25 million.  That’s insane.  Though, whether it’s the former or the latter, the point is that IMPACT has money to burn.  This also raises the prospects of keeping guys long term, as well as luring certain stars away.  Again, it’s worth noting that Jericho claimed he and Kenny Omega were given huge deals, though Omega himself claimed that the WWE and AEW were really the only two he was serious about; and we all know AEW was never in trouble of losing Omega.

Back to the gal’s side of things, Gail Kim is coming back!  And in other shocking news, water is wet and Corey Graves is a bag of dicks!  Kim, who has been feuding with Tessa Blanchard “resigned” from her backstage agent role at the recent set of tapings and announced her return to the ring to face Blanchard.    It’s unsure if this is just a one off match, something the two have been building up to, or if this is indeed a full time return to the ring. Kim walked away in 2017 due to nagging injuries that had piled up.

In more bizarre news, Dave Meltzer of the Observer is claiming Lacey Evans of all people is in line for a major push.  Apparently Evan’s odd walk out during Elimination Chamber was Vince’s brilliant idea of pushing the classic-pinup-character.  I’m not sure why she’s getting pushed.  She has nothing in common with top stars like Alexa Bliss, Charlotte Flair, Ronda Rousey, and stars the WWE is high on like Mandy Rose, Corey Grave’s girlfriend, and Liv Morgan.

….OOOOOOHHHH…….

Dave Meltzer is reporting as well that Bob Backlund was the only wrestler to attend Pedro Morales’ funeral.  The legend passed away last week at 76 and apparently Backlund was described as being rather upset about the whole situation.   Honestly, if I’m Backlund, I’d be rather upset too.  That just seems like a dick move from the WWE.  You promote his passing with graphics and packages, but you can’t show up in masse, or even just Vince and his family, to pay respects like a dignified human being?  The fact that the WWE do these tribute videos now seem all the much more hollower.

Quick Hits – Hiromu Takahashi doesn’t understand math, saying on Twitter that he’s “943 percent recovered“.  Is it out of 1,000?  WWE has acquired MLW’s trademark for WarGames; which means -yes- that the WWE didn’t even own the rights to it.  Fucking fantastic.  DC Comics published a pretty cool line of Lucha Libre inspired action figures of Cheetah, Wonder Woman, Batman, Deathstroke, Superman, and Metallo 2.  Personally Deathstroke looks the best. Rising women’s wrestler Barbi Hayden (WOW’s Abilene Maverick) ‏ revealed in an interview that she’s had talks with AEW.  Finally, after three straight days of MMA action (*More pwease!*), we have some boxing news, as Tyson Fury has signed on with ESPN and Top Rank Boxing.  The signing puts any rematch with Deontay Wilder.
