Starship Troopers Getting a TV Show?! and More Nerd News

In news I can only hope happens, Ed Neumeier, the write of Starship Troopers revealed that he’s working on trying to get the original cast together for a t.v. show revival.  Talking to HN Entertainment, Neumeier said;

Well, I think they can.  I don’t want to jinx anything, but we are talking about trying to do a television show that is based on that idea.

That ‘idea’ is the original cast reuniting!  The cast in question, for the most part, are all still fairly young being in their mid-late 40’s.  So it’s completely possible, plus with four films after the first, there is plenty of characters and cannon to explore should this happen.

However, this idea is up against a reboot idea that started gaining traction in 2016. Neumeier went on to say about the reboot idea;

Well, I have mixed feelings about it [the reboot] because I think that what we did with the first Starship is almost not repeatable in a way…I based the structure of Starship Troopers when I was writing it, the structure of WWII propaganda films that the studios made between 1941 and 1944. We don’t really talk about those movies anymore, but that had a very particular structure and they were made during a conflict and they didn’t have an end-point as with Starship ends they’ll keep fighting.

I for one would prefer a t.v. series over a reboot film.  More to the point, it’s not even like you couldn’t augment the history of the universe some to bring back deceased characters like Dizzy (Dina Meyer), or Rasczak (Michael Ironside).  All you need to do is claim the Bugs now have the ability to take human form and they keep choosing dead characters to be their cost effective avatars.

This project is money, I hope it happens!

In Other News…

Batwoman has cast a few characters for their upcoming series on the CW and according to Deadline those names are, Mean Tandy, Camrus Johnson and Nicole Kang.  Tandy will play Sophie Moore, a love interest for Kate Kane (Ruby Rose). Johnson will play Luke Fox, who in the comics goes on to be Batwing.  Kang will play Mary Hamilton, Kate’s step-sister.  The show has a pilot in place and we’ll see if that and the new cast can get it to a season order.

In Wonder Woman news, Chris Pine is unsure if he’ll return for a third outing as Steve Trevor, apparently being dumber than women has caused him to not realize how good the money could be.  Talking to Entertainment Tonight, Pine said;

I think Steve’s done.  I think Steve’s done his bit. I wish them all the luck in the world.

Genius.

In Aquaman news, DC and Warner Bros. have greenlit a sequel and are actively pursuing James Wan to direct that film as well. The director is currently working on DC’s Swamp Thing project, so I’m sure we’ll have a better idea what to expect after that project has been completed.

And in news that will disappoint no one but me probably, IFC has cancelled the John C. McGinely and Janet Varney lead Stan Against Evil.  The show was never huge for the network, but what show on that channel is?  Dana Gould, the creator, revealed that on her show the Dana Gould Hour and said that it’s over.  She did imply they’re not done, and that they may shop it around or have it show up somewhere down the line, but for now, no more tails about Stan and his friends fighting evil.

In Quick Hit News, the iconic Green Ranger, Jason David Frank is open to the idea of pro wrestling being a ‘habit’, and claims WWE and IMPACT talent have reached out to him to help prepare him for his match.  The Hollywood Reporter claims Sony almost lost the He-Man Masters of the Universe brand because Mattel has grown frustrated over the lack of a film.  The Hollywood Reporter has also confirmed that Jay and Silent Bob: Reboot is happening after Saban Film acquired the rights to it.  Lastly, Keanu Reeves will be playing Duke Kaboom, a play off of Duke Nukem in Toy Story 4 and his character will be found in a discounted toys outlet.
