And She Can Time Travel!, Call of Duty Dwarfs the MCU and More!

She can time travel too folks!  The folks at Marvel seem dead set on turning Captain Marvel into their next Mary-Sue figure.  Following in the footsteps of Rey from Star Wars, who could magically do everything a Jedi could with next-to-no-training, Captain Marvel’s debut will follow in the same over the top wish fulfillment that LucasFilms fell into.  According to Samuel L. Jackson, Captain Marvel, on top of her speed, flight, super strength, and energy projection abilities, can also time travel.  I’m not familiar with this character after she went from Ms. Marvel to Captain, but this is pre-Crisis Superman’s level of lunacy.  Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Jackson described Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel by saying;

She’s pretty much the strongest character — in terms of someone with powers are able to do things — in the Marvel universe. So, for Carol Danvers to be that person and for Brie to become that person, it’s gonna be a dynamite thing. I mean, [the Avengers] are up against some really, really tough odds right now — we saw throughout Infinity War — so now we know that we need something that’s as powerful as Thanos. And at some point, we’ll find out how powerful she is and all the things that she’s capable of. She’s one of the few people in the Marvel universe that can time travel, so…

So yeah, it looks like Avengers 4 is going to be all about how “Captain Marvel Got Her Groove Back”.

In speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Sam Jackson also spoke about his time with the MCU, saying he’s sticking around as long as they want him.  He joked saying he could be the Alec Guinness of Marvel films and is open to playing the character into his 80’s.  Hey, I’m game.

In interesting news that isn’t about Marvel but involves them, Activision has thrown down a big ol gauntletThe company released a press release today, making a big claim; they’ve out-earned the MCU and Star Wars.  Now, it doesn’t say Disney-proper, or both combined, but still.  To be able to claim your video game franchise (Call of Duty) has generated more revenue than both the MCU and Disney-lead Star Wars?  That’s ballys.

Call of Duty has become one of the most successful entertainment properties in history. As a franchise, Call of Duty has now generated more revenue than the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the box office, and double that of the cumulative box office of Star Wars.

in DC news, mores specifically Matt Reeves’ long gestating The Batman film, apparently the folks at Warner Bros. and DC want to get it perfect.  The world on high from Revenge of the Fans, is that the script lacks “spectacle”, whatever that means.   The film was supposed to be more detective in focus, but that might not be able to be maintained if the studio wants high brow, big budget nonsense.

In more DC news, Wonder Woman 1984 will apparently just flip the script as Chris Pine claims.  They’re still doing the whole “fish out of water” motif but now with Pine in the future.  Great.  Sounds riveting.   This according to an interview with Variety.
