Two Gone From IMPACT, WWE Star Angling to Go to AEW? and More!

In news that should shock no one, Trevor Lee and DJZ have both announced they’re done with IMPACT Wrestling.  DJZ announced the news yesterday, thanking the promotion as he left.  Now today, Trevor Lee announced on Twitter that his deal had expired as well.  Lee has long been rumored to be heading to NXT, though that is just a rumor.  DJZ however hasn’t been used that often since names like Sami Callihan, Brian Cage, Pentagon and others came into the fold.  Neither man was being utilized very well, or that often so their departures make sense for all involved.

Off the top of my head, they join Austin Aries, Madison Rayne and Andrew Everett as talents who left the promotion this year.

Tye Dillinger isn’t starting off the year on a good note with the WWE.  Nia Jax took to Twitter yesterday to lambast the WWE for not including any women of color in a four photo post.  Some consider this at best an overreaction on her part.  Considering how pathetically bad she is as a performer, her post seemed tone deaf, and Tye Dilinger called her out for it.  Jax has been used by the company to celebrate “body positivity” and they’ll continue to champion all the positive body-press she generates.  So Dillinger took a big swing going at her.  The worst part (or best) is that he outright called her shit in the ring.

Nothing he said was wrong, too be fair.  However, this is now doubled down on the fact that Dillinger is openly supporting All Elite Wrestling.  He’s unhappy with his position and is currently dealing with some injuries at the moment (allegedly), but it seems like he’s angling to jump ship.  Another talent that is being courted is Zack Ryder, who Cody is close friends with and often champions on Twitter (or takes digs at him).

The goddamn legend of the Power Ranger franchise, Jason David Frank, is stepping into the pro wrestling world.  Frank, 45, will debut for Laredo Wrestling Alliance and will presumably wrestle Mr. Studtacular Brysin Scott.  The two men did an angle over the weekend that saw Scott and Frank get into a  physical altercation at ringside.  No date has been announced yet, but it’ll probably happen in early 2019.  Frank’s involvement with the promotion netted them their largest gate ever.

Kenny Omega published a video on Being the Elite’s YouTube channel featuring a young fan buying an 16 bit video game that features Kenny Omega taking on Hiroshi Tanahahsi in an RPG style fight.  The video was supposed to air before their main event at Wrestle Kingdom but was pulled.  The video doesn’t exactly paint the NJPW President and the top star in the best light, and with the rumors of Omega leaving NJPW for All Elite Wrestling, the company may have decided to avoid any backlash for the slight digs Kenny took.  For those who watch the video and don’t see the big deal, juts remember that Japan as a whole is far more self conscious and protective of their image than us in the States.
