DC Cancels Major Comic Over Allegations, Into the Spider-Verse Update and More!

DC and Vertigo’s Border Town has been cancelled after accusations of abuse have bubbled up against writer Eric Esquivel.  Esquivel has since placed (or always had) his Twitter account on private.  The book was seemingly cancelled after artist Ramon Villalobos quit, alongside colorist Tamra Bonvillian.    A woman named Cynthia Naugle initial made the allegations about an unnamed man, and this prompted people to suss out who the person was Naugle made mention off in her blog post.

I don’t know if Esquivel is innocent or guilty, what I do know is that believing anyone blindly without facts is a dangerous thing to do.

Into The Spider-Verse has been so well received that Sony is tickled pink out it.  Because of the glowing reception it got, Sony has greenlit an all female spin-off to go alongside a sequel.  The spin-off will be written by Bek Smith and will apparently feature  Spider-Gwen, Cindy Moon/Silk, and Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman; according to Vanity Fair.

The sequel of Into the Spider-Verse will also focus on a Spider-Gwen, Miles Morales romance.  Which, seems icky.  Spider-Gwen is Gwen Stacey and is the same age as Peter Parker; arguably both in their late 20’s to early 30’s.  Miles is a teenager.  Not sure how they’ll get around this.

That being said, Sony hasn’t given up on the Sinister Six film either.  Amy Pascal, the centerpiece of all this news, revealed to Vanity Fair that she’s simply waiting on Drew Goddard to be ready to direct the film.  She’s quoted as saying;

I’m just waiting for Drew to be ready to direct it.  I would do anything with Drew Goddard. I’m just waiting for him to tell me he wants to.

Finally, Toonami has announced a new schedule for 2019.  The official Facebook page posted this image which shows several major news bits. Firstly the block is going from 9 p.m. EST to 11 p.m. EST once again.  The block was moved to start at nine during the summer; but that was also when they were airing new episodes of My Hero Academia.  Another big change focus’ on Dragon Ball Z Kai and Samurai Jack being removed from the lineup as well.
