DC Universe Casting News, Major Name Returning to Supernatural and More!

 Lucasfilm has announced that the cast for the upcoming Disney+ show called The Mandalorian.  The cast confirms roles for Pedro Pascal and Gina Carano as we reported earlier.  Pascal is the leading man of the series, but he’s not the only big name.  Joining them are Nick Nolte, Carl Weathers, Giancarlo Eposito, and German filmmaker Werner Herzog.    In other names that aren’t as big but are equally awesome include Omid Abtahi of American Gods and Emily Swallow who played Amara on Supernatural and Lisa Tepes on Castlevania.

In DC Universe streaming news Stargirl has brought on Joel McHale to play Sylvester Pemberton, aka Starman.  Starman’s star rod is a focal point in Stargirl’s weaponry, so I would imagine at the least some flashbacks involving Starman.  Brec Bassinger is the only other major name attached as of right now that I know of.  Bassinger is playing the titular Stargirl but Stargirl’s step father is also a major player as well.  So it’ll be interesting to see who gets cast for him.  It should be noted that Pemberton was never Starman, but the Star Spangle Kid, who’s weapon of choice was actually a belt that created star based projectiles.

Joining the DC Universe family is 90210  and Sharknado star Ian Ziering has been cast in Swamp Thing to play Blue Devil.  With his casting, the studio released a character description and a fictional movie poster as well;

Stuntman turned movie star, Daniel Cassidy became semi-famous after playing the demonic Blue Devil. But now, eight years later, Cassidy finds himself living out his days in frustration, pining for his former fame while on a collision course with destiny.

In some incredible news for the CW show Supernatural, a major name is returning for the first time since the season 2 finale.  That name is John Winchester himself, Jeffery Dean Morgan.  Morgan has gone on to star in Watchmen, The Walking Dead, The Losers and other comic and sci-fi based properties.  Morgan has been a name fans have wanted back since the character died and was released from hell, but people speculated if it would ever happen and if it did, would it only be for the series finale?   Consider me intrigued.  The return is set for the 300th episode and while I would’ve left it as a surprise, it should get fans to tune in.  The 300th episode is set for February 7th of next year.

In more CW news, The Elseworld crossover event was a ratings hit for CW, and according to Mark Guggenheim, revealed some interesting tidbits about the event; namely that it almost had a different name.  According to the series producer for Arrow, the event was almost called Identity Crisis.  That DC event featured many twists and turns and a far darker plot than the one offered up originally.  Namely the murder of a superhero and his wife for starters.

Lastly, it sounds like Netflix really fucked Marvel on those t.v. show deals.  According to Variety all Marvel shows produced for Netflix have a two year window of inactivity that must be honored before they could be brought to television or film elsewhere.  That means not just Charlie Cox, but anyone who’s cast to play Daredevil in any live action capacity may not begin filming until two years have lapsed from the date of cancellation.   Damn, I didn’t expect Disney to be bent over so badly on that one.  One show that is different though is The Punisher.  No word on the exact details of it’s fate or the future for the role and character live action wise, but it’s seemingly stated that it doesn’t have the same clause.
