WrestleCorp Quick Hits: Update On Drew McIntyre, IMPACT Ratings Increase and More!

Kurt Angle has always been high on Drew Galloway, even when they were in IMPACT Wrestling together.  So it’s no surprise that Angle himself wrote a match where McIntyre squashes the two time Hall of Famer.  Angle ran the match by Vince McMahon, go his approval and then worked it out with McIntyre.  With WWE being high on McIntyre after he showed the world what he was capable of in the indies, it’s no surprise that the WWE ok’ed Angle’s idea.

For those worried about IMPACT Wrestling, don’t be.  The company has shown some surprising cat-like abilities to survive when they aren’t supposed to.  After their lowest ratings ever at two hours after being moved from 8-10 to 10-12 PM est on Thursdays, the company has bounced back.  They’re up 23% from last week, going from 105,000 to 129,000 viewers.  This isn’t too surprising as it was a sudden shift in the time slot, and fans were sure to forget.  This hasn’t stopped IMPACT from shopping around though, and last word I’ve heard is that IMPACT hopes to have a deal in place, hopefully by December. We’ll see what’s next for IMPACT, even if it’s still on Pop.

I’ve got some Bad News for you Lucha Underground fans.  With a fifth season of Lucha Underground not being guaranteed, as we’ve mentioned a few times now, the lucha based promotion did the smart thing and ended season four with a logical ending just in case.  OH WAIT, no, that’s NOT what they did.  Instead season four ended with the shocking and out of nowhere debut of one Bad News (Motha Fuckin) Wade Barrett.    Apparently Barrett was/is going to be a new version of the Matanza Cueto character after Jeff Cobb (original Matanza) left the promotion.   Apparently Matanza is an evil entity that inhabits bodies and Barrett was supposed to be the next one?  I don’t know, I missed a lot of this season.  Interesting way to debut Barrett though for sure.  Barrett now goes by Stu Bennett on the indies, and primarily works with Defiant Pro Wrestling (formerly Whatculture Pro Wrestling).

And finally, with Lucha Underground up in the air, expect Mrs. Machine to pop up in IMPACT Wrestling in the near future; possibly even at the next tapings.  Brian Cage’s wife and Lucha Underground ring announcer and on screen character Melissa Santos has revealed to Womens Wrestling Weekly that she’s doing some stuff with IMPACT Wrestling, saying;

It looks like I’m going to be doing some stuff with Impact.  I’m super excited about that. It hasn’t been officially announced. We just need to figure things out… I would love to do ring announce. I don’t know exactly what [I’ll be doing] just yet, but I’m know I’m going to be involved and it will be just great.
