Star Wars News, Comic CEO Steps Down and More! – ComicCorp News

Star Wars News – Rian Johnson followed the Disney trend and deleted a bulk of Tweets from his account in the wake of the James Gunn ‘pedophilia’ controversy.  For those of you unfamiliar, Gunn had tweets exposed, joking about pedophilia, rape, murder and many other dark and taboo comedic topics.  Disney fired him following the Alt-Right revelation.

Rian Johnson, who himself has been combative on the social media platform, has deleted over 20,000 tweets to avoid giving “trolls” ammunition.

In fellow Star Wars moves, Simon Pegg has regret for mocking Jar Jar Binks.  Now, let’s be clear, Binks was garbage. However, the actor who played him, Ahmed Best, played him just like George Lucas wanted him; as to say…perfectly.  Unfortunately with the revelation that Best thought about suicide after the backlash to the character, Pegg spoke about being so cavalier in his criticism of the character, saying;

I feel so ashamed of the fact that there was actually a victim, a human victim in that.  I think most people were regarding Jar Jar Binks like he was a real creature and wailing on him for being annoying, or whatever, or not liking him. But there was a person behind that. And I read that and just thought, ‘Christ, I’m one of those people.’ It makes me feel awful.

IDW CEO Stepping Down – CEO and co-founder of IDW Ted Adams has stepped down from his role within the company.  Former Paramount TV Chairman, Kerry McCluggage will succeed him while Adams takes a sabbatical from the company.  No word yet as to why, but when Adams returns he hopes to take a more creative role in IDW.

If I had to take an educated guess though, it’s more the company asking Adams to step aside and return to comics, as McCluggage is a former TV exec and IDW has a fruitful partnership with SyFy at the moment, but that’s speculation.

Quick Hits – Lauren Cohan has not ruled out returning to The Walking Dead after she departs the first half of season 9.  Legends of Tomorrow will focus on a minor storyline featuring John Constantine and one of his ex-boyfriends.  Comedy Central has obtained the rerun rights for Bojack Horseman.
