Announcer’s Job in Danger? Update on Zayn Being Left Home and More! – WrestleCorp News

Corey Graves Job in Jeopardy? – Corey Graves is rubbing people the wrong way.  Apparently Graves’ post after the Greatest Royal Rumble didn’t land well with top WWE execs.  He took to Instagram to say;

A drink to remember that no matter how bad WE think we have it, at least our women have rights and we all have freedom of expression. #ifyougetityougetit

The Observer is noted as saying there are people backstage who think Graves is “more replaceable than he thinks he is”.  That would be interesting to see, because the WWE already took a hit for going to Saudi Arabia, and if they fire someone over supporting gender equality, that could spell disaster.  With the height of the #MeToo and equality movement reaching its apex, to fire a man for supporting women publicly would spell disaster.  So whoever said Graves wasn’t as protected as he thought, is clearly unaware with optics.

Sami Zayn Update – We reported that there was a rumor going around that Sami Zayn was either held off the show in Saudi Arabia by request or it was Zayn’s own idea.  However, the Observer is now reporting that the WWE was the ones who sat Zayn, and it was partly due to their concern with how it’d go over with the local-Saudi government.  Apparently the WWE was greatly worried about potentially offending, so the decision was made to minimize any and all offenses as possible; which included sitting their wrestler of Syrian descent.

Death of Rusev Day? – Dave Meltzer is reporting that the decision to break up Aiden English and Rusev is to put Rusev into the upper ranks within the WWE. It’s not a surprise to hear there are rumors of Rusev wanting out, and part of that might be inline with his current comedy gimmick. With Vince once again pairing Lana and Rusev, the idea is that they’ll be a strong power couple that should help propel Rusev into the main event scene.

Quick Hits– Ed Nordholm revealed unsurprisingly that before taking over IMPACT Wrestling in late-2016, that he wasn’t really a ‘pro wrestling fan’.  Apparently that has since changed.   WWE is planning on bringing back the Great American Bash event for a potential network special, or possibly a major house show event like last years Starrcade event.   The WWE reported strong but not surprising numbers for the first quarter of 2018.    Summer Rae is returning to the ring on May 25th in Melbourn, Australia for Battle Championship Wrestling.  This is her first match since 2016.
