‘Titans’ First Look Revealed and…YIKES, Movie ‘Deadpool’ Can’t Show Up in Comics? and More! – ComicCorp News

Titan’s First Look – For those hoping that the folks at DC would nail or at least get close to accurate Titan costumes for the hotly anticipated release of the DC Digital Brand, well, I’m sorry.

As seen to the left, that’s supposed to be Starfire, played by Anna Diop.  I’m not sure what she’s wearing but I’m pretty sure that outfit is banned on all planets, not just Earth.  I think it’s fair that if I didn’t mention she was Starfire, you’d have no clue, as nothing about her costume or hair look anything remotely like the iconic character.  But wait, there’s more.

Joining the ensemble is some dude with green hair and a Wednesday Addams steam punk-cosplayer.  Obviously (or not, I don’t know at this point) this is supposed to be Beast Boy and Raven, played by Ryan Potter, Teagan Croft.  Like Starfire’s orange skin, Beast Boy is traditionally illustrated with green.  In fact it’s kind of a thing.  Croft’s Raven isn’t too far off but she’s far more pale, usually shown to be a ghostly white.  However the character these days has been seen with almost a tan.  So, I have no clue.

The issue isn’t that these are “bad”, it’s that they look nothing like their characters.  And it’s not hard to make them look like they’re aliens, Star Trek has been doing that wonderfully for decades.  Orange and green paint isn’t that hard to apply.  Coming off of the gorgeous looking suits for Robin, Hawk and Dove, one has to wonder if these are going to improve or if we’re seeing the best that they have to offer.

Movie Deadpool Not Permitted in Comics? – For whatever reason, the folks at Marvel don’t want Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool (or Reynolds himself) anywhere near their books.  Marvel artist Reily Brown revealed in two Instagram posts that Marvel told him to edit an illustration that depicted Reynold’s Deadpool suit from the first movie.  Then in another issue, where an actor was playing Deadpool, Brown made the actor look similar to Reynolds, but again Marvel squashed it.  No real reason why but Marvel is a funky company like that.

Quick Hits -Start Trek: Discovery is bringing on Tig Notaro to play chief engineer Denise Reno of the USS Hiawatha.  No episode count has been given yet.  Too dumb to make up, Captain America #700 features the death of Captain America.  Cus reasons.  More tragic footage of Stan Lee struggling to make it through a con has surfaced, but due to my respect for the man I won’t post it on the site.
