‘Rick and Morty’ Doomed? ‘Justice League’s’ New Books Are…Weird and More! – ComicCorp News

Rick and Morty Cancelled? –  For those of you wondering where the hell season four of ‘Rick and Morty’ is, well keep waiting.  Dan Harmon revealed this weekend with Kevin Smith that the hold up is a due to a dreaded contract dispute.

Here comes the paranoid anxiety of like, I don’t want any Rick and Morty fan hearing that and going like: ‘Harmon’s on Smith’s podcast and he’s talking about how it’s great how he can take as much time as he wants.’ The reason why we’re not working on Rick and Morty right now ain’t because I figured out that I don’t need to impress you, it’s because of a little something called contract negotiations and it’s gotten complicated this time around.

With the way he said ‘This Time Around’ it feels like this might be far more than just dollars and cents (or maybe not).  It also feels like this isn’t something with an easy resolution; which sometimes do intend in premature cancellations.  While some outlets believe this will quell the doom and gloom crews, I don’t.  The wording of this is too auspicious for me to think this ends well.  If that’s how Harmon felt, one would think he’d phrase this a lot better.

Justice League Books are Getting Weird – So this is a thing.  There are at least three new Justice League books going forward.  The standard, a relaunched ‘Dark’ title, and ‘Odyssey. ‘  The main line up will feature Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern John Stewart, The Flash (Wally West?), Martian Manhunter, Hawkgirl, Cyborg, and Aquaman.

With the other two taking an even weirder grouping.  For Dark, the book will feature Cyborg, Azrael, Starfire, Green Lantern Jessica Cruz, and Darkseid (yup) in what seems to be a more space focused romp.  Darkseid is apparently on a youth kick these days, having just hit puberty.  Darkseid was destroyed by Mobious, the Anti-Monitor without restrictions essentially.  After he died, his half-Amazonian/half-New God daughter, Grail, took care of him and raised him.   Odyssey will be handled by Joshua Williamson with art by Stjepan Sejic

In other news, for Justice League Dark, your lineup is looking like Wonder Woman, Swamp Thing, Man-Bat (yup), Zatanna and Detective Chimp.  Not hte most exciting lineup.  I’m not sure what this kick is for DC to try and make villains ‘good’.  We’ve been seeing a lot of this since Forever Evil.  Stop it.  Stop it now.  This book is a relaunch of the one that came out in 2011, that featured Constantine, Swamp Thing, Zatanna, Madam Xanadu, Deadman, and Shade the Changing Man.  A much more accurate group for that vibe.   This book will be written by James Tynion IV with artwork by Alvaro Martinez, Raul Fernandez, and Brad Anderson

Finally, apparently the relaunch ‘Justice League’ title, that we covered above and in previous posts, is getting some new features as well.  Writer Scott Snyder and artists Jim Cheung and Jorge Jimenez are not just bringing back some of the more popular characters to the book but also bringing back the iconic Legion of Doom (no, not Hawk and Animal).  If you were just thinking that ‘ Boy, sure would be cool to see the Hall of Justice as well…’ you’re in luck too.  The Hall of Justice will return as well as the teams new base of operations.  I would imagine the  Odyssey crew get the Watchtower?

FX Cancels Deadpool – The animated ‘Deadpool’ cartoon featuring Donald Glover as the titular star, as well as his brother Stephen, has been cancelled.  FX released a statement indicating it was over creative differences for the project.  This despite FX enjoying critical praise for Glover’s ‘Atlanta’.  With Disney’s acquisition of Fox Studios (not the network), including the channel ‘Deadpool’ was to air on (FXX), it’ll be interesting to see if Disney even wants to do something like this in the future.

Quick Hits – Armie Hammer reveals that George Miller’s unreleased ‘Justice League’ designs were not finalized.   Despite Quentin Tarantino being attached to direct, “Star Trek 4’s” script has been done for some time.  However, Tarantino has his own script ideas too.  ‘Teen Titans’ released a new trailer taking a shot at ‘Green Lantern’ the film.  Can’t say it’s unearned.

Jorge Jimenez has designed….Lobo’s daughter?  Named Crush she’ll be in debuting in Teen Titans apparently.  The newest episodes of ‘Pokemon’ will see main character and company work at the Poke-center.  I don’t know why I think this is amusing but here it is.  Thanos #17, which takes place in a different universe, killed off the lats two characters standing, Silver Surfer and The Hulk.  Ironically enough, in prime Marvel cannon, The Hulk just killed Vision in Avengers #684.  DC’s President Diane Nelson is taking a leave of absence from DC, citing family and recharging as the reason.  Gina Rodriguez will play Carmen San Diego in the upcoming live action Netflix series.
