I’ve Fixed WrestleMania! – How to Main Event the Main Event of WrestleMania 34

Roman Reigns may about to be named in a massive steroid scandal. The Undertaker hasn’t had a truly worthwhile match since WrestleMania 28. John Cena is about as done as one can get, and Brock Lesnar is….well Brock. The Undertaker cannot wrestle again. Whether he does, or doesn’t is irrelevant to that statement. He may be in the ring but what he’ll do isn’t wrestle. Fake hips aren’t that sturdy, which is why a lot of people with artificial limbs and joins don’t compete in contact activities.

John Cena has done everything there is to do, and it shows. Name me one guy who’s phoned in more this year. He’s earned it, by all accounts. He’s done the job for everyone needed and has conquered so many mountains, they’re delaying his last milestone because after that, what else is there?

Roman Reigns is a solid wrestler. If he had never been forced down our throats, he’d be a great mid card champion, who puts on great matches. But beyond the steroids, Reigns is fucking boring. The boring-ist. There are, literally, hundreds of people who are as good as he is in the ring, who are more entertaining on the mic than Reigns.

Most people don’t want to see Reigns main event another WrestleMania, and even more don’t want to see The Undertaker come back. So what do we do? John Cena needs a role, we need to get Reigns over, Brock Lesnar needs to drop the belt, and ‘Taker is done.

So what’s the one match that can solve all this?

You’ll hate it, but it’s the best situation available; Brock Lesnar defending his championship against John Cena.

I know, you’ll groin. You’ll piss, you’ll moan and call me an idiot, but this is the best option. Why? Let’s count the ways.

Firstly, Cena and Lesnar, no matter how you cut it, is a main event worthy match. It’s the undisputed two biggest names in the company, fighting it out for the main prize. It’s Cena’s attempt at breaking Ric Flair’s 16th reign, against the most “dominant” of all champions. Allegedly. You book Cena going into WrestleMania to face Lesnar, then have him win, boom. Memorable moment. The record breaking should happen at WrestleMania and no better time than now.

So what does this do for the future? Well, it takes the pressure off the WWE to re-sign Lesnar. It establishes not only Cena as the ‘new’ Lesnar (top part time guy) but it also establishes the fact he’s replacing’ The Undertaker (WrestleMania legend).

Then with Cena back on top on RAW, you can actually take Roman Reigns off t.v. He was suspended in kayfabe on RAW, for nothing (seriously), and you can ride that wave going forward. Cena replaces Reigns due to the on screen suspension, faces Lesnar, beats him, and you allow Reigns time to not only get off the gas and get back to training his body without the use of supplements. It also sets up the idea that Reigns returns with, and here me, a new look. Change him up. Donate his hair, drop the vest, get a new look, and let him embrace a personality because he doesn’t have one. He’s got hair, the jaw, he’s passable in the ring, but where’s the personality?

If you take Reigns off of t.v. for a few months, find a more character driven gimmick for him, and bring him back just before SummerSlam, you may just make him work. Why SummerSlam? Ideally you’d want to do this at WrestleMania 35, where Reigns beats Cena for the title, but considering you don’t know how long Cena wants to work, or will be able to work with his new acting projects coming up, the sooner at a major show the better. However, if you have Cena maybe drop the belt right before SummerSlam and regain it around, say October? That might work. But let’s just book it for SummerSlam. Bring back Reigns as a likeable guy, maybe someone who embraces his familial line; someone who smiles more and isn’t so stoic and brooding.

It didn’t work for Joss Whedon’s “Angel”, it won’t work for Reigns.

While it’s not the perfect rebooking, it’s one that sets the table for a better outcome than what we’ll get; Reigns win, he gets booed, cuts a boring promo dismissing the “haters” and then gets booked incredibly strong for another five months until the ratings dip again and he gets dropped for the title scene, only to be reinserted around January of 2019.

This idea keeps that from happening. In theory.

Hopefully.

Probably not.

Aw, fuck it. They’d screw it up anyway.
