First Lucha Underground/IMPACT Wrestling Match Booked – The first match that pits Lucha Underground against IMPACT Wrestling has been revealed and it’s not only a six man tag, but sees the return of a former X-Division Champion to t.v. Lucha’s Aerostar, Drago and King Cuerno (IMPACT’s Fantasma) will take on Dezmond Xavier, and two talents who’ve been off t.v. for a while Andrew Everett and DJZ.
Speaking of which, IMAPCT’s Ed Nordhom was in attendance over this weekend’s tapings of Lucha Underground. Aro Lucha’s Jason Brown, Ron Harris and brother Don were also there. Aro Lucha has used contracted IMPACT stars in the past, and it appears both companies are working with Lucha Underground going forward. Perhaps a three way joint show in the future?
Update on Jeff Hardy’s Arrest – As reported last night, Jeff Hardy was arrested in Concord, North Carolina on suspicion of a DWI. Hardy has lost his license for 30 days while the court case plays itself out. Jeff Hardy blew a .25, which is ludicrously drunk. Apparently Hardy was involved in a single car accident, which saw Hardy slam into a guardrail after losing control. Police estimate around $5,000 of damage to the guardrail, with another $8,000 of damage to his car.
As of right now, the WWE has not suspended Jeff Hardy. As this wasn’t a drug test, the WWE doesn’t have to fire Jeff, who already has two strikes against him in the wellness testing; however I would be surprised if they didn’t send him to rehab.
Matt Hardy apparently took a shot at his own brother on Twitter, proclaiming;
EVAH since the #7Deities have come to me, I do not put alcohol, drugs, or foreign substances into my VESSEL.
I AM MORE.
The tweet came out about an hour after the news broke.
Austin Aries in ROH? – As reported over the weekend, Austin Aries showing up at ROH’s 16th Anniversary show was not a deal with the companies. Aries showed up on his own accord with out IMPACT’s approval being necessary. IMPACT has publicly supported this move by Aries. Aries showed up to challenge former protege and longtime friend Kenny King for his ROH Television Championship. PWInsider reported that Aries let IMPACT know before hand that he was going to be doing this, and IMPACT apparently was very supportive and hoped that the appearance will help mend fences between them and ROH, a company that has routinely butted heads with each other in the past.
Rich Swann Update – Over the weekend, reports about Rich Swann pulling himself from his remaining bookings have become a widely discussed topic. His wife, Su Yung, who was involved in the domestic incident that saw his WWE tenure come to an end, spoke out on social media advocating for his innocence. Swann is no longer set to work for the Mexico promotion Crash that was set to run on the weekend of WrestleMania. That also might be partly because Konnan is no longer with the promotion, but that’s just speculation. Many are weary of booking Swann as they don’t believe his innocence in the matter. According to many, Swann and Yung’s relationship has been described as ‘passionate’ and at times ‘volatile’. Dave Meltzer even said that those who knew Swann and Yung knew that a violent encounter between these two wasn’t surprising at all, and seemed to imply through the sources own comments, that this wasn’t a new thing for the couple. It seemed at the time, and still feels that this is an unhealthy relationship, which could be why people are distancing themselves from Swann.
Indy Wrestler Pleads Guilty – James Riley, aka Rude Boy, has plead guilty to all charges of child pornography this past Wednesday. The NYPD found images on his phone and on his tumblr account. He was arraigned on charges of ‘promotion and possession of a sexual performance by a child’ and made his $3,500 bail. He was placed in an interim-supervision probation for two years, and sentenced to five days in jail. He’ll have to register as a sex offender though going forward.
Quick Hits – SuperCard of Honor XII will happen during WrestleMania weekend and will feature Marty Scurll taking on Dalton Castle for the ROH World Championship. Former IMPACT X-Division champion Taiji Ishimori has announced he’s leaving Pro Wrestling NOAH and will become a ‘freelancer’, which is the Japanese term for indy wrestler. Kota Ibushi is a freelancer for those wondering. Rumor has Shane McMahon feuding with Dolph Ziggler heading into WrestleMania.
