New Bidder Emerges for Fox – May Outbid Disney, A Butt-load of Trailers and More! – ComicCorp News

Comcast Acquiring Fox? – Thanks to regulatory processes that are already causing some issues with the Fox/Disney deal, CNBC is reporting that Comcast has emerged as a viable contender to land the Fox list of properties. It all comes down to the AT&T and Time Warner merger. Everyone who worries about a communications company buying a media provider (and that should be everyone), will be watching this. The U.S. government has already sued to block the merger, and people on both sides are lambasting AT&T for their attempts to acquire Time Warner and the negative impact that’ll have on the free market.

However, if that deal goes through and it’s still looking 50/50 right now, then Comcast and Verizon would be the next to go after media properties. Hence, Comcast and Fox. Comcast currently owns NBC Universal, so acquiring Fox would be no different than what’s happening with Disney and Fox – one company acquiring too much of the market place.

DC Announces New Lineups – DC Comics is trying to diversify their story telling ideas and go after “Young Adults” and middle school readers with two new lines. The YA line is called “Ink” and will feature some cool ideas like “Gotham High”, an alternate universe take of Batman in high school with the usual Bat-cast of characters. I may actually get that one. Ink sounds like it’ll be geared towards younger high school students. Which is usually the market for the regular line…I think this is more of a tonal shift, personally. We’ll see.

DC Ink

BATMAN: GOTHAM HIGH – Melissa de la Cruz (ALEX & ELIZA, BLUE BLOODS series, WITCHES OF EAST END series) BATMAN: NIGHTWALKER – THE GRAPHIC NOVEL – Marie Lu (LEGEND series) TEEN TITANS – Kami Garcia (BEAUTIFUL CREATURES series) UNDER THE MOON: A CATWOMAN TALE – Lauren Myracle (INTERNET GIRLS series, KISSING KATE) WONDER WOMAN: TEMPEST TOSSED – Laurie Halse Anderson (SPEAK and CHAINS)

The second line will be Zoom, which is aimed at the 5th-8th graders of the world. A “Superman of Smallville” comic will be released here, and I think that’s just all kinds of amazing.

DC Zoom

BATMAN TALES: ONCE UPON A CRIME – writer and artist: Derek Fridolfs, Dustin Nguyen (BATMAN: LI’L GOTHAM) BATMAN: OVERDRIVE – Shea Fontana (DC SUPER HERO GIRLS series) BLACK CANARY: IGNITE – Meg Cabot (THE PRINCESS DIARIES series) DEAR JUSTICE LEAGUE – Michael Northrop (TOMBQUEST series) GREEN LANTERN: LEGACY – Minh Lê (DRAWN TOGETHER) SUPER SONS – Ridley Pearson (KINGDOM KEEPERS series) SUPERMAN OF SMALLVILLE – writer and artist: Art Baltazar & Franco (TINY TITANS) SUPERMAN SMASHES THE KLAN – Gene Yang (AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER series, NEW SUPER-MAN), will be released as periodicals first, then collected

lineup for DC Zoom, which is aimed at middle-grade readers and will include Gene Luen Yang’s Superman Smashes the Klan, is below:

Quick Hits – ‘Last Jedi’ Blue Ray to have reportedly more than 2 hours of bonus content on the DVD.

Trailer Madness – Last night during the SuperBowl, we received about a dozen new trailers for various things. Some for the first time, others getting a second release.

Skyscraper
First up is The Rock’s trailer for ‘Skyscraper’, where plays a one legged, ex-FBI agent, who lives in a massive new skyscraper with his family. He obviously plays the security official, and then shit goes batty.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
Next up is the second trailer for the 5th film in the Jurassic franchise. Now with even more augmented dinosaurs and over the top plot elements; like a velociraptor who’s so trained, she stars in her own underground dinosaur fight club. Not even kidding.

Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan
This is for you “Office” fans, as it stars John Krasinski. It’s a reboot of sorts of the past films, but it’ll be a series now that will air on Amazon. Kill Amazon now before it takes over the world…

Cloverfield Paradox
The trailer debuted during the SuperBowl and the film, just hours later on Netflix. It’s the third installment of The Cloverfield saga, but it’s being met with mixed reactions.

Avengers: Infinity War 2nd Trailer
The second installment of the Avengers: Infinity War trailer debuted. It’s more of the same, so it’ll either get you geeked or not.

Mission Impossible: Fallout
The sixth installment of the beloved “Mission Impossible” film has debuted, and it seems just as action packed as ever. A battle of IMF vs. CIA. I’m in.

Westworld’s Second Season Trailer
I don’t have anything witty to say about this, so check it out.

Han Solo – A Star Wars Story
And finally, the Solo trailer debuted. It’s…uh….not great. It looks amazing, but the trailer felt…uninspired. Plus, the guy playing Han Solo just doens’t work for me at all…But hey, who knows, right?
