Part 1

With the Radical Threat now in full bloom, the group welcomes Bam Bam Bigelow to the group the night after Souled Out and he joins the group. Sid Vicious -the WCW World Champ- is the poster boy, Shane Douglas – while he recovers – is the mouth piece, Bam Bam and Saturn are the tag team, and Torrie Wilson is the eye candy. The group comes out and assaults various WCW employees the first night, decreeing they’re the new “It” faction in the company. Benoit attempts to get involved but new WCW President Terry Funk is able to restrain Benoit.

Later that night, Funk tells Benoit he made a call and next week Benoit can discuss his situation with his new manager. Benoit protests but Funk urges him to trust him.

That same night, Eddie Guerrero and Dean Malenko start talking backstage. The Filthy Animals are in chaos, and Eddie is looking for a way to resolve the issue, but Malenko tells him that once it starts to go, it goes fast; and to get out now.

The TV Championship Tournament lays out like this

Over the course of the weeks leading up to SuperBrawl X (not 2000, fuck that) we see Curt Hennig escape for a win, Kidman handily beat Saturn, Konnan cheats his way to a win and The Bull surprises Flynn in an upset.

We then see Kidman get a shocking clean pin on Hennig, followed by a show of respect by Hennig. Konnan is able to beat the Bull cleanly, but responds by assaulting him post match. Vito runs down to make the save, but turns on The Bull and assaults him too.

That sets up Kidman vs. Konnan for the Television Championship at SuperBrawl X

For the Hardcore title, Meng is given a wrestler that no one thinks he can beat; The Wall. The Wall rebounds over his shocking loss to Hennig by beating Brian Knobs into oblivion, dismantling Screaming Norman and beating both David Flair and Crowbar bloody. That final match messes with David Flair and “fixes” him. No longer so angry, he leaves Crowbar and Daffney. The Wall though gets the match with Meng for the Hardcore title.

The Varsity Club goes after La Parka and Vampiro, dubbed the Monsters and Misfits. The Monsters talk about the darkness, and shadows, and violence and punk music; everything that Vampiro was already doing. Now La Parka though looks more evil in nature; and his chair is now wrapped in barbed wire. The Varsity Club thinks they’re freaks, and should be put down. Imagine if Kurt Angle in 2000 wasn’t goofy about his All-American gimmick and was more bigoted and “old school”. The group wouldn’t be racist, but they’ll go after anyone who is unkempt and lives lifestyles that aren’t socially the norm.

For the Cruiserweights we get Prince Iaukea returning to the company, embracing his Hawaiian heritage. The newly dubbed Prince of Polynesia will sport a very colorful new face paint look, and colorful hair. He’ll state that in Hawaii, you’re taught to treat people with dignity and what Evan Karagias is doing a disservice to wrestling. He’ll put over the fact that he defeated the great Steven Regal to win the WCW Television Championship and that he’s back in WCW to take the Cruiserweight title from the dishonorable Karagias and reclaim the title. He’ll talk about wanting to reestablish it for the newer stars who covet the belt, like future legends in Ultimo Dragon, Jushin Liger and Rey Mysterio once did. This will prompt Karagias to attack Iaukea from behind with the belt before bolting. Iaukea would then wrestle some lesser talents on Nitro and Thunder, beating them with relative ease and never going more than four minutes per match. At that point Funk names him the number one contender for Karagias’ title.

Buff Bagwell, now with the United States Championship and Kimberly, puts over his philandering ways. How he not only cheats in life, but in the ring as well. And why shouldn’t he? He cheated death and retirement. He now opens up the competition for anyone who wants a shot. This brings out Stevie Ray but Bagwell not only beats Ray, but also “injures” his neck with the Blockbuster. This prompts Booker T to come out and assault Bagwell on numerous weeks, leading to a match being made for SuperBrawl for the US Championship.

The women, as promised, get their title tournament. It’s made up of Midnight, Asya, Mona (Molly Holly), Daffney, Akira Hokuto (former champ), Leilani Kai, Lexie Fyfe and Madusa. Here’s the tournament layout

Aysa goes over Fyfe in a matter of seconds. Fyfe though is consoled after by Lash LeRoux. Hokuto defeats Kai in the longest match in the opening round. Mona takes care of Daffney fairly easily and Madusa outwits Midnight by winning with a roll up.

Asya vs. Akira
Mona vs. Madusa

Asya gets the win over Akira in about a minute, hitting her with a few slams and big clotheslines, before hitting her with a spinebuster and getting the bin. Akira shakes Asya’s hand and celebrates with the winner. Mona and Madusa have a (hopefully) great match on t.v. to get people excited about the title tournament on pay per view but ultimately Madusa defeats Mona. That sets up the finals for SuperBrawl.

As mentioned before, Chris Benoit finds out who his manager is when Ric Flair returns to the company and backs Benoit. He tells Benoit that he can’t fight this new Radical Threat by himself and that he needs to turn to his brothers. With that Ric flashes “The Four” and smiles. This segment closes the show with the next week show features Ric Flair as the new JJ Dillon type, introducing the new ‘leader’ Chris Benoit. The new enforcer, Curt Hennig, a man who needs to redeem himself in Dean Malenko, and Chris’ best friend, Eddie Guerrero. Flair puts over the fact that Hennig and Malenko have a lot to prove as Horsemen and Benoit’s friend, and that’s why he squashed his issues with Guerrero, because he knows that Eddie will have Benoit’s back. The new stable then confronts Shane Douglas and his gang the next week setting up two major matches; Malenko, Hennig and Guerrero vs. Bam Bam, Saturn and Douglas, and Sid Vicious vs. Chris Benoit for the WCW World Heavyweight Championship.

Billy Kidman vs. Konnan
– A solid back and forth that sees Konnan giving no respect to his former friend and partner, constantly wrapping Kidman’s legs around turnbuckles and attacking his knee. Kidman goes for the Shooting Star Press after a facebuster but can’t get up the ropes. This allows time for Konnan to recover and go for his Tequila Sunrise submission hold, but Kidman kicks him off and recovers in time to hit a BK Bomb on Konnan for the win.

The Wall vs. Meng (c)
– The Wall spends the first five minutes throwing everything he can at Meng, even the kitchen sink; literally. The Wall eventually hits a second rope chokeslam on Meng and raises his hands as Meng just gets back up. The Wall succumbs almost immediately to the Tongan Death Grip after one stiff kick from Meng.

The Varsity Club vs. The Monsters and Misfits (c)
– The Varsity Club’s Jim Duggan and Leia Meow are besieged by the Misfits during their entrance, cutting them off from the ring, where Vampiro and La Parka wait. The Monsters get the upper hand on The Varsity Club but Steiner and Rotunda are able to battle out and regain the advantage. Eventually Jerry Only of the the Mifits gets on the ring apron and distracts Rotunda who takes a shot at Only. Vampiro is then able to hit his Nail in the Coffin finisher for the win. The Monsters then poor paint all over Rotunda and then ‘mosh’ their way to the back with the rest of the Misfits.

Prince Iaukea vs. Evan Karagias (c) w/Spice
– Iaukea dominates the match for most of it, before Karagias is able to make a comeback thanks to a lowblow. Spice hooks Iaukea’s leg, similarly to what she did to Madusa the month prior, allowing Karagias to hit a spinning heel kick to Iaukea’s eye. Karagias, smelling blood in the water as Iaukea clutches his eye, goes out and drags Spice out of one of her heels. Clutching the shoe, Karagias then drills Iaukea in the eye with the heel’s point, causing a DQ. A blood pact will be used to sell the damage, as Iaukea, covered in his own blood, gets rushed off to a ‘hospital’.

– Book and Buff exchange the advantage throughout most of the match, with each side getting the upper hand every so often. Book eventually hits a high angle back drop on Buff before climbing the top rope. Kimberly tries to reach in for Buff but Book hops down and shoes her away, allowing Buff time to recover and drop him over the top rope to the floor. Book lambast Kimberly and eats a sliding kick from Buff. Buff then smashes Book’s neck across the ringside security rail, and throws him back in where he hits a Blockbuster for the win. Post match has Book clutching his neck the way his brother did.

WCW Women’s Chapmionship
Asya vs. Madusa
– The women’s match goes off without a hitch, as the other women in the tournament come out to watch on the stage. Eventually several others join them, including Television Champion Billy Kidman and the Tag Team Champs The Monsters and Misfits. Asya controls the match for most of it, but is unable to get Madusa down for three despite all of her power moves. Asya goes to take Madusa into the corner, for a superplex, but Madusa kicks her way out and flips over Asya, rolling her up for a surprise three count. The two women shake hands as Madusa raises her WCW Women’s Championship.

Six Man Tag
The Four Horsemen vs. The Radical Threat
– Douglas spends most of the match on commentary with Torrie in his lap as Bam Bam and Saturn do most of the work. Eddie, Hennig and Malenko though eventually wear down Bam Bam to the point where Douglas starts to get incensed. Douglas storms the ring, and gets up next to Saturn while Guerrero and Malenko set up Bam Bam for an Irish Whip. The duo throw Bam Bam into Douglas, causing the ref to indicate a tag had been made. Hennig catches Douglas as he tries to run off but gets thrown in the ring. Saturn tries to make the safe but eats a Guerrero drop kick and an eventual ring-to-floor splash for his efforts. Malenko drives a punch into Douglas’ face, and hooks him in the Texas Cloverleaf for the apparent victory. While Hennig and Guerrero are dealing with Bam Bam and Saturn, a masked man comes in and lays out Malenko with a slapjack. The ref, trying to regain order on the floord misses this and turns around to see Douglas on Malenko for the victory.

Chris Benoit vs. Sid Vicious (c)

– Benoit gets jumped by Sid to start the match and is chokeslammed into the ringside guardrail, and powerbombed through the announce table before the match ever starts. Sid busts open Benoit and whips him back into the ring where Sid continues to pummel him. Eventually though Benoit battles back and locks Sid in a Crossface for nearly 4 minutes that Sid antagonizes through, tries to reverse and maneuver out of. Eventually though, Benoit’s grip fails and slips off, allowing Sid the time necessary to get up. His arm, now dead at his side, is useless; allowing Benoit the ability to fight his way back in with a series of chops and kicks. Torrie comes down and is about to get involved when she’s cut off by David Flair of all people and guides her to the back. Benoit hits a nasty snap suplex on Sid, setting up for the Flying Headbutt but gets down when Bam Bam and Saturn try to make their way down. They’re cut off by the rest of the Horsemen, Ric included. Benoit tries again but Douglas, coming out of the crowd, pushes Benoit off and misses Sid. Sid is able to rebound and hits a violent big boot on Benoit but can’t hit him with a chokeslam, as his arm is still messed up. Shane screams at Sid to put Benoit away but Sid can’t, which makes Sid furious. He spits at Sid and calls him pathetic, which sees Sid go to attack Douglas. Douglas drops and backs up, causing Benoit the time needed to get up and dropkick Sid into the ropes and bouncing back into a German Suplex. Benoit again goes for a headbutt but Sid catches him with his off-hand and delivers a chokeslam. The move rocks Benoit but only for a two. Benoit stumbles into the ref who falls through the ring ropes to the floor, as Douglas levels Sid with a loaded punch from a steel chain. Shane then throws the chain to Benoit who catches it. Douglas then gets on the ring apron, and grabs the ref pointing to the chain in Benoit’s hands and Sid’s prone body. The ref throws out the match and Sid retains.

Post match sees Douglas leave with the World Title over his head as Sid stirs in the ring.
